Participation of CSIR-IITR at the "107th Indian Science Congress" from January 3–7, 2020


Bangalore: The 107th Indian Science Congress will be held at the University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK Campus, Bangalore, Karnataka, from January 3–7, 2020. The CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (CSIR-IITR), Lucknow is a constituent laboratory of the CSIR, Ministry of Science & Technology.

 India's Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, stressed the importance of scientific social duties in his inauguration speech. Both Mr. B.S. Yediyurappa, the Hon. Chief Minister of Karnataka, and Dr. Harsh Vardhan, the Hon. Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Science & Technology, and Earth Sciences, were present at the event. Dr. Harsh Vardhan also opened the expo. The CSIR displayed its products and technologies in the expo under a number of different categories, including Farmer-Centric Technologies, Genomics & Health Care, Water, Ecology & Environment, Leather, Mining Minerals Materials, Engineering & Energy, Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Aerospace & Strategic Sector, Jigyasa, and CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative. 

Dr. Harsh Vardhan went to the CSIR pavilion to see some of the technology the organisation has created, like the "Oneer" water disinfection system, which was on display and being used. To the benefit of patients, their attendants, and the students, he praised the scientists' efforts in creating an affordable technology and urged that it be implemented at other medical institutions, hospitals, and hostels. He also praised the CSIR-IITR's efforts to raise public awareness of the importance of clean water, cleanliness, and the Namami Gange campaign. In addition, the CSIR-IITR team gave out educational pamphlets to the general public and schoolchildren to help them become more aware of health and environmental safety issues.
 
During their visit to the pavilion, Dr. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary of DST, and other dignitaries, scientists, academics, and students expressed their appreciation for the work.
